At the North Melbourne Jiu Jitsu dojo, I teach a blend of modern striking, classical Jiu Jitsu principles with live grappling from Judo, Wrestling & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, pressure tested methods & skills from MMA.

The basis of the Jiu Jitsu taught is from Koryu but I have modernised the training and skills you will learn so striking effortlessly flows into grappling and a standing or ground submission.

Koryu means Classical Jiu Jitsu direct from Japan, Gendai means a modern adaption. So what you will learn is derived from legitimate Koryu but is considered now a Gendai system or Gendai Jiu Jitsu.

If you wish to train feel free to contact me. Open to anyone 16 years old +

What Is Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu Jitsu was developed by the Samurai in Japan during the Sengoku Jidai (warring states period) in feudal Japan as an unarmed system of combat.

Today Jiu Jitsu is practiced by millions of people worlwide and since the Samurai period across different continents and across different cultures.

It is now a self defence, historical reference and sport martial art practised by women, men, children and all walks of life.

I teach both the unarmed Jiu Jitsu and traditional Samurai weapons that can be adapted to modern application.

Student's Feedback

"Duncan was great in teaching me the basics when I first started. I already came from a Karate background and both his skill and explanation as an Instructor was great. Fully recommend Duncan at North Melbourne Jiu Jitsu"
